The episode begins with a black screen. The clicking of keyboard keys can be heard.
“The Ghost is Me” by Flora from Kansas starts to play.
STELLA is busy writing her first blog post slandering her friends. She’s so far gone that there’s hardly any moments of hesitation.
SCENE TWO – INT. STELLA’S AUNT’S APARTMENT – BATHROOM

The song continues.

SCENE SEVEN – OPENING TITLE
The title is displayed during the final line of the song.
SCENE EIGHT – LAX AIRPORT/CAR/LOS ANGELES
Song: “I Just Might” by Bruno Mars
The plane lands.
BRIANNA places her luggage in the trunk of her rental car.
There are clips of Brianna driving through various parts of the city.
SCENE NINE – LOS ANGELES – INT. BRIANNA’S HOTEL ROOM
BRIANNA is unpacking her stuff when her phone rings. She goes to answer it to see that SKYLAR is calling to FaceTime her. She answers and sees that SKYLAR, LOLA, LIV, SAM, and JAXON are all in a car together.
BRIANNA: Hey guys!
SKYLAR, LOLA, LIV, SAM, and JAXON all greet her simultaneously.
SKYLAR: I’m glad you landed safely. How was your flight?
BRIANNA: Long, but I was able to get a lot of work done. I think that I’m as prepared as I’ll ever be for these interviews.
SKYLAR: That’s great. I’m so jealous of you right now. We all should be in L.A. right now.
BRIANNA: And I wish you could be, but at least you got an all expenses paid trip to Chicago.
SKYLAR: Good point. Hopefully we can sneak away for some stupid fun at some point before we go home.
BRIANNA: Hope so. Don’t have too much fun without me.
SKYLAR: Same.
BRIANNA: Have you talked to Ari today?
SKYLAR: Not yet. I don’t think she gets out of her fitting for another hour or so.
BRIANNA: Right. Well I’m gonna finish unpacking and prepping for the interviews and I’ll call you later.
SKYLAR: Sounds good. Love you guys.
LOLA, LIV, SAM, and JAXON: Love you too!
SKYLAR: Later Bri.
BRIANNA: Bye.
BRIANNA ends the call.
SCENE TEN – NEW YORK – INT. THEATER – BACKSTAGE
ARIA is standing on a pedestal getting her dress fitted by LUKE.
ARIA: Thanks again for doing this for me, Luke. I know you have a lot on your plate, but with Liv out of town, I didn’t know who else to ask.
LUKE: No worries. I could use a chill work day. Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited that my career is taking off, but sometimes I miss the old days when I was in school.
ARIA: I get that and something tells me that after this, things will never be the same.
ELLE enters with three drinks in a tray.
ELLE: Hey guys.
ARIA smiles at her.
ARIA: Hey Elle.
LUKE: Hi.
ARIA: What are you doing here? I thought you were rehearsing at Sapphire today.
ELLE: Yeah. We finished early, so I figured I’d stop by and bring you guys a little treat.
ELLE hands LUKE a tea.
ELLE: Tea for you, Luke.
LUKE: Thanks.
ELLE hands ARIA a matcha.
ELLE: And matcha for you, Ari.
ARIA: Thanks. How did you—
ELLE: I asked around.
LUKE: Liv?
ELLE: Yep.
LUKE: Well thanks again. You are free to interrupt our fitting sessions whenever you want.
ELLE: Thanks.
LUKE turns to ARIA.
LUKE: You can place the dress on the rack when you’re ready. I’ll be outside.
ARIA: Thanks Luke.
LUKE exits and closes the door.
ARIA: So what do you think?
ELLE: You look amazing. That dress was made for you.
ARIA: Thanks.
ARIA steps down from the pedestal.
ARIA: You’re coming to the concert, right?
ELLE: Oh, I wouldn’t miss it. I will be cheering you on right from the front row.
ARIA grins.
ARIA and ELLE smile at each other and toast their drinks before they take a sip.
SCENE ELEVEN – LOS ANGELES – BOBBY’S BEACHSIDE RESTAURANT
ANDI and BRIANNA are sitting at a table on the patio.
BRIANNA is holding her recorder in her hand as they chat.
BRIANNA: Thanks for meeting with me today.
ANDI: Of course.
BRIANNA: So this is your family’s restaurant, right?
ANDI: Yep. It was my great grandfather’s. It’s been passed down from generation to generation.
BRIANNA: That’s amazing. And you work here full time?
ANDI: Yes, when I’m not working on music. Although I’m no stranger around here. I used to work here part time when I was in school.
BRIANNA: That’s right. I guess that’s pretty much how it all started for you guys.
ANDI: Yep. Before we were selling out shows and taking on the music world, we were just average school students with a love for music.
SCENE TWELVE – FLASHBACKS – LOS ANGELES
All four of the girls’ flashbacks are cut together into one scene.
SCENE TWELVE A – INT. BOBBY’S BEACHSIDE RESTAURANT – BREAK ROOM
ANDI is wearing her headphones and jamming out on her keyboard.
SCENE TWELVE B – EXT. WAVECREST PREP – POOL
LUCIANA is taking her stance on the diving board to jump into the water for swim practice.
SCENE TWELVE C – INT. WAVECREST PREP – CHOIR ROOM
MARIS and THE WAVECREST CHOIR are warming up.
SCENE TWELVE D – INT. WAVECREST PREP – MUSIC ROOM
DEVYN takes her place at her drum for band practice with THE WAVECREST BAND.
SCENE TWELVE E – INT. BOBBY’S BEACHSIDE RESTAURANT
ANDI is running orders from the kitchen to different tables.
SCENE TWELVE F – EXT. WAVECREST PREP – POOL
LUCIANA dives into the pool and swims to the other side.
SCENE TWELVE G – INT. WAVECREST PREP – CHOIR ROOM
MARIS sings with THE WAVECREST CHOIR. Their more classical musical selection naturally forces MARIS to remain in her singer’s stance, rather than her preferred loose performative style with the band.
SCENE TWELVE H – INT. WAVECREST PREP – MUSIC ROOM
DEVYN is playing the drums with THE WAVECREST BAND. She appears to be visually bored as she plays.
SCENE TWELVE I – INT. BOBBY’S BEACHSIDE RESTAURANT – BREAK ROOM
ANDI hangs up her apron and grabs her backpack before she heads out.
SCENE TWELVE J – INT. WAVECREST PREP – LOCKER ROOM
After swim practice, LUCIANA opens up her locker to grab her things before she heads out.
SCENE TWELVE K – INT. WAVECREST PREP – CHOIR ROOM
Once choir practice is dismissed, MARIS perks up and quickly packs up her things to head out.
SCENE TWELVE L – EXT. WAVECREST PREP – PARKING LOT
DEVYN is walking to her car. She gently removes her wig, revealing her dark purple hair.
SCENE THIRTEEN – FLASHBACK – INT. SANTINI HOUSE – GARAGE
MARIS and LUCIANA are tuning their instruments.
ANDI is sitting on the stool behind her keyboard.
DEVYN is grabbing drinks for everyone from their mini fridge.
ANDI: I heard you were tearing it up in the pool today, Luc.
LUCIANA smiles.
LUCIANA: You could say that. Today’s lap time was my personal best.
ANDI: That’s amazing.
LUCIANA: Thanks. But it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows to get there. I’ve been putting in a lot of early hours before school. I’m exhausted.
MARIS: I hear that. Mrs. Baylor has us cramming several days worth of choir practices into one just to make sure that we’re ready for our next competition.
DEVYN: Same for our upcoming performance.
DEVYN hands MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI a drink.
DEVYN: You know Mrs. Baylor and Mr. Mwangi would be a lot less stressed if we performed musical numbers from this millennium.
DEVYN sits at the drums.
MARIS: Believe me, I’ve tried to make that argument several times, but I was shot down. They want to focus on the classics.
DEVYN: Of course. Not that I don’t admire their craft and expertise in the musical field, but it wouldn’t kill them to shake things up. Our musical program could really be something if they did. The only reason I’m still in the band is because I need the elective to graduate and that was the only one available that remotely interested me.
ANDI: Speaking of interests, Mar, I loved the new song you wrote.
MARIS: Thanks. It took a while to get it right, but I’m really proud of it and hopefully if you guys like it, it can be a potential number for the showcase.
LUCIANA: So are we ready to run it through?
MARIS: Yeah.
DEVYN: Let’s do it.
MARIS, DEVYN, ANDI, and LUCIANA start to play Maris’ song. They run through the first verse, chorus, and second verse before it transitions to the next scene.
SCENE FOURTEEN – FLASHBACK – INT. WAVECREST PREP – THEATER
MARIS, DEVYN, ANDI, and LUCIANA are performing the remainder of the song at the showcase.
JORDAN is in the audience looking at his program telling him about the girls and their band. He seems very impressed.
The crowd cheers at the end of the performance.
MARIS, DEVYN, ANDI, and LUCIANA take a bow after their performance and exit the stage relishing from the high of the performance.
LUCIANA: You guys, that was great!
ANDI: They loved it!
JORDAN approaches them.
DEVYN: That was a great song, Mar.
MARIS: Thanks, Dev.
MARIS and DEVYN hug.
JORDAN: I’d have to agree.
MARIS, DEVYN, ANDI, and LUCIANA turn and face him.
JORDAN: Hi ladies, I’m Jordan Reed.
DEVYN: Of Coastal Records.
JORDAN: You’re familiar with the label?
DEVYN: Absolutely. You’ve produced some of the most well-known modern day musicians.
JORDAN: And hopefully, I’ll be adding some more to the label very soon. I was very impressed by your performance. And I think that your band would be a perfect addition to my label.
ANDI: You’re kidding.
JORDAN: I never kid.
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI all share elated looks with each other.
JORDAN: I obviously do not expect you to give me an answer tonight. This is a big decision.
JORDAN reaches in his jacket pocket for his business card.
JORDAN: When you all have made a decision, give me a call.
JORDAN hands MARIS the card.
MARIS: Thank you so much.
JORDAN: No, thank you. Have a good night, ladies.
JORDAN walks away from the girls, who are pretty much left speechless.
ANDI: Am I dreaming or did that just happen?
DEVYN: Oh, it happened.
MARIS: This is the biggest thing that could ever happen to us. If we sign with Coastal, we’ll be playing sold out stadiums before we know it.
LUCIANA: So we’re doing this?
DEVYN: We’d be crazy not to. But if we do, we have to be prepared to make some sacrifices.
ANDI: Like what?
DEVYN: Once we sign with them, our whole lives will change. There won’t be any time to be in choir, band, or swim practice. And there certainly won’t be much time for you to work at the restaurant.
ANDI: Good point.
LUCIANA: But I think it’s worth the sacrifice and if we don’t take this opportunity now, we might regret it.
MARIS: And I’m sure we could work out some kind of deal with the school to use our time at Coastal as our elective.
ANDI: We’d have to because my parents will kill me if I drop out of school altogether.
LUCIANA: So…we’re doing this?
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI all exchange hopeful looks.
DEVYN: We’re doing this.
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI all hug.
MARIS pulls out her phone.
MARIS: Alright, we have to commemorate this with a photo.
LUCIANA: Here she goes again.
DEVYN and ANDI chuckle.
MARIS: You guys can make jokes, but I take my job very seriously as our unofficial social media manager, okay?
ANDI: Okay then.
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI all pose together for a photo.
MARIS: Everyone say “Wildwave”!
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI: Wildwave!
The camera flashes.
End of flashbacks.
SCENE FIFTEEN – EXT. SWIM CLUB – POOL
LUCIANA and BRIANNA are sitting poolside as they talk.
BRIANNA: Thanks for making time to talk with me before your shift.
LUCIANA: Absolutely.
BRIANNA: It’s no surprise that you guys signed at such a young age. You are so talented. But what was it like to go from average high school students to a record-selling band almost overnight?
LUCIANA: It was everything that we could have ever dreamed of. I’m extremely grateful for the time that we had together as a group. I learned so much about the industry and about myself. But just like Dev said, taking that record deal came with sacrifices.
SCENE SIXTEEN – FLASHBACK – INT. COASTAL RECORDS – RECORDING STUDIO
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI are in the studio finishing up a recording session.
JORDAN is sitting in the booth at the controls with the STUDIO ENGINEER.
JORDAN: That was great, ladies. Take 5.
JORDAN and the STUDIO ENGINEER exit the booth.
DEVYN sets her sticks down and makes her way to the couch with ANDI.
LUCIANA places her guitar in the stand before heading over to the couch.
MARIS continues to play her guitar softly.
LUCIANA: Hey M, I know we’re all new to this, but “Take 5” means you can take 5.
MARIS: I know, but I keep screwing up the second verse and I know I can do better.
ANDI: You’re too hard on yourself. It was barely noticeable.
MARIS: I noticed.
DEVYN: Fine. Do what you need to do. We have some other things to discuss. Like how the swim team reacted to your sudden departure?
LUCIANA: Uh, not well. Half of them were understanding and the other half, not so much. And because I chose to leave, I also gave up any potential scholarships that I had, so essentially I have no choice but to make it in this band.
ANDI: And you will because you are a killer bassist.
LUCIANA: Thanks A.
DEVYN: And hey, if this doesn’t work out, you could always get a job as a lifeguard or something.
LUCIANA: Oh, so she has jokes.
DEVYN: Hey, that was a compliment. I think that you could save lives.
MARIS: Nice save, D.
JORDAN and the STUDIO ENGINEER enter the booth and sit back at the controls.
JORDAN: Alright ladies, are we ready to do another take?
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI all simultaneously agree and return to their spots.
JORDAN: Everybody ready?
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI respond.
MARIS: Count us down, Dev.
DEVYN raises her sticks for the count.
DEVYN: One, two, three!
SCENE SEVENTEEN – FLASHBACK – INT. PHOTO STUDIO
Wildwave’s studio session plays in the background of the scene.
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI pose in multiple different outfits for multiple different photoshoots.
The group photo for the last photoshoot session shown is used for Wildwave’s first U.S. tour.
SCENE EIGHTEEN – FLASHBACKS – VARIOUS LOCATIONS
SCENE EIGHTEEN A – INT. TOUR BUS
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI are all on the bus goofing off and having a good time together.
SCENE EIGHTEEN B – SHOW 1
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI play their first show.
SCENE EIGHTEEN C – INT. TOUR BUS
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI are working on a song.
SCENE EIGHTEEN D – SHOW 2
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI play another show.
SCENE EIGHTEEN E – SOUNDSTAGE
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI are filming a music video.
SCENE EIGHTEEN F – SHOW 3
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI perform their final show of the tour and soak in the applause, all giving the “rock on” symbol with one of their hands.
SCENE NINETEEN – FLASHBACK – INT. TOUR BUS
MARIS is sitting in the living area working on a song.
DEVYN exits from the sleeping area.
DEVYN: Working late?
MARIS looks back at her briefly before she continues writing.
MARIS: Always.
DEVYN joins her on the couch.
MARIS: Couldn’t sleep?
DEVYN: Not really. I’m still getting used to sleeping on a bus bunk.
MARIS aggressively scratches out lyrics in her song book.
DEVYN: Mar, you’re spiraling.
MARIS: No. This is just what it looks like when I write. We need new material to fall back on when we get home.
DEVYN: And you have to be the one to do it?
MARIS: I’ve always been our songwriter.
DEVYN: Yeah and that was before…
DEVYN gestures to the bus.
DEVYN: …all of this.
MARIS sighs and gently closes her songwriting book.
DEVYN: I know that this is a lot and we’ve barely had a chance to breathe, but no matter what we can’t let the pressures of making it in the music business get to us. We have to look out for each other.
MARIS: You’re right. No matter what happens…
DEVYN and MARIS: We’ll always be a team.
The two share a sweet look before they embrace each other in a long hug.
End of flashbacks.
SCENE TWENTY – NEW YORK CITY – EXT. THEATER/STREET – NIGHT
ARIA and ELLE exit the theater and make their way down the street.
ARIA: Okay, so be brutally honest. What did you think?
ELLE: You get better and better everyday, Cole. You were born to be on the stage.
ARIA: Well I could say the same for you. Just say the word and I’ll put you on stage instead.
ELLE: Yeah, that’s not happening. This is your time to shine. And honestly, it’s kind of nice to be on the sidelines for once.
ARIA: I get that. I’ve been stressing over this performance so much that it’s literally all I’ve been thinking about. I even considered turning down an invitation to fly to L.A. with Bri just so I could stay here and practice more. She’s doing her interviews with Wildwave this weekend that might result in a reunion concert if it goes well.
ELLE: And you’re going. No exceptions.
ARIA: But—
ELLE: But nothing. You could be witnessing music history if you go. You cannot possibly pass this up. And if you still want to rehearse, you can do it in L.A.
ARIA: Good point.
ARIA and ELLE’s walk slows when they reach a karaoke bar.
ELLE: But for now, you are officially off the clock and it’s time for some fun. My treat.
ARIA: I’m in.
ARIA and ELLE enter the bar.
SCENE TWENTY ONE – NEW YORK CITY – INT. KARAOKE BAR
ARIA and ELLE sit at the bar.
ELLE scans the QR code on the karaoke sign on the countertop near them.
ARIA: Please tell me that you’re not planning on doing karaoke.
ELLE: No. We are doing karaoke.
ARIA softly sighs with amusement.
ARIA: You can’t help it, can you?
ELLE finishes entering their names.
ELLE: No. I just know how to have a good time. It also says that they may take video of us singing for their social media if we’re any good. But no worries cause my vocals are nowhere near on your level.
ARIA: I’m sure it can’t be that bad. So what are we gonna sing?
ELLE smiles.
An instrumental version of ”My Life Would Suck Without You” by Kelly Clarkson plays over the bar’s speakers.
ARIA and ELLE sing the song on the stage together.
A BARTENDER takes video of them singing for their social media.
Once the song concludes, ARIA and ELLE hug as the people in the bar cheer for them.
SCENE TWENTY TWO – LOS ANGELES – INT. DEVYN’S HOTEL ROOM
The following morning, DEVYN and BRIANNA are sitting on the couch in the room.
BRIANNA: Thanks for making the journey to fly out here for this. I really appreciate it.
DEVYN: Of course. It’s kind of nice to be back in my old stomping grounds. New York has been great, but L.A.’s my home.
BRIANNA: So it’s no secret that your departure from the band initially led to the disbanding of Wildwave.
DEVYN: Yes. I fully own it. Our rise to fame was fun for a while. It was everything we could’ve wanted. But after a while, I think that my artistic vision changed and our former record label was not particularly in support of that. And contrary to what people may believe, Andi, Luc, and my sister were very supportive.
SCENE TWENTY THREE – FLASHBACK – LOS ANGELES – COASTAL RECORDS – REHEARSAL SPACE
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI are doing a rehearsal for one of Devyn’s original songs.
DEVYN is playing lead guitar and is the lead vocalist for the song. LUCIANA is on bass and ANDI is taking Devyn’s place as the drummer. MARIS is on guitar for the song and singing backup vocals along with the other girls.
JORDAN is in attendance for the rehearsal.
MARIS: So what did you think?
JORDAN: Honestly, I loved the song, but something didn’t feel right about the execution of it.
ANDI: What do you mean?
JORDAN: That I’m not sure how your fans are gonna feel about the sudden shift of vocal arrangements and instruments.
LUCIANA: With all due respect, Jordan, we’ve been working really hard on trying new things with our music and I think our fans would be open to seeing Dev front and center for once.
JORDAN: Well, maybe we should take our time on testing out that theory. On Friday, you’ll do a live version of “Dreamcatcher” with you all back in your respective positions and we’ll see how people react to it.
DEV: Fine. Whatever.
Once JORDAN exits, DEVYN is understandably pissed off.
MARIS: Dev, don’t worry. They’re not gonna like the new version.
DEVYN: Why wouldn’t they? You’re an amazing vocalist and I’m just the girl drummer.
ANDI: Don’t be like that. I mean, in a way, it’s our fault because we went so long without switching it up.
DEVYN: Well I’m not planning on being in the background for the rest of my life and I don’t know if I can work for someone who is so okay with that.
LUCIANA: Look, it’s been a long day. Let’s just get some rest and we’ll figure this out in the morning.
DEVYN: Sure.
SCENE TWENTY FOUR – FLASHBACK – INT. SANTINI HOUSE – GARAGE
DEVYN is sitting on the couch looking at a scrapbook of her younger self in performances, costumes, etc. as well as some copies of sheet music from songs she wrote.
A large box of other Wildwave memorabilia is next to her.
MARIS stands in the doorway.
MARIS: Hey.
DEVYN looks up from the book.
DEVYN: Hey.
MARIS: Dad said that dinner’s ready.
DEVYN: Okay. I’ll be inside in a few minutes.
MARIS: Is everything okay?
DEVYN: Yeah. I was just looking through this.
DEVYN hands MARIS the book.
MARIS smiles.
MARIS: Aww, our first scrapbook. Gosh, look how young we were.
DEVYN: Yeah. Everything seemed so different back then. We were making music for the love of it, not to prove anything to anybody.
MARIS: I know. Look, don’t let Jordan get inside your head. At the end of the day, it’s still your song. And you should be the one to sing it.
DEVYN gently closes the scrapbook.
MARIS: It’s really good, D. Really good.
DEVYN: Thanks.
MARIS: Now let’s go eat. I’m starving.
DEVYN: Yeah. I’ll be there in a minute.
MARIS stands and exits the garage.
DEVYN grabs her phone and pulls up a video she recorded of herself when she was working on the final draft of the song. She smiles as she watches it with a glimmer in her eye.
SCENE TWENTY FIVE – FLASHBACK – INT. LIVE PERFORMANCE VENUE/BACKSTAGE
The Wildwave fans begin to file into the venue.
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI are all backstage getting ready to perform.
JORDAN enters the backstage area in search of the girls.
LUCIANA: Hi, Jordan. What are you doing back here?
JORDAN: I needed to get some answers.
ANDI: About what?
JORDAN: A little video that’s been circulating online this morning of Devyn singing “Dreamcatcher”.
MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI all share baffled looks and pull out their phones to watch the video.
DEVYN’s face shows no remorse.
MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI all turn to face her.
JORDAN: Any idea how this could’ve gotten out there?
DEVYN: Absolutely. I posted it.
LUCIANA: Wait, what?
ANDI: Why would you do that? We haven’t even officially released it.
DEVYN: Because the version that is going to be released is not my version. I wanted people to hear it the way it’s supposed to be.
JORDAN: That wasn’t your call to make.
DEVYN comes face to face with JORDAN.
DEVYN: It never is. At this point, we’re just your puppets.
JORDAN: I think you’re forgetting who made you a star in the first place. Try showing some gratitude.
DEVYN: Oh, do not give me that. You knew who we were when you signed us in the first place. We told you that we wanted to take risks. We never wanted to play it safe. Right, guys?
When DEVYN doesn’t receive an answer, she turns to look back at MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI who are all speechless.
DEVYN: Guys?
MARIS: I told you. The song was good. But you deliberately went behind our back and posted that video without our knowledge or consent. You wrote it for the band. When did it all become about you?
DEVYN: It’s my song.
JORDAN: Technically, it’s mine. And since I own the rights, I get the final say on when and how it’s performed. If you want to be a part of this group, you need to play it like you rehearsed it.
DEVYN: Did you not see how much better it was than the predictable shit we always do? Everybody loved it!
JORDAN: That wasn’t your call to make. Now for your sake, I am going to overlook this little mental breakdown of yours, provided that you go out there and perform it the way you’re supposed to.
DEVYN: No.
JORDAN: Excuse me?
DEVYN: You heard me. I can’t do this anymore.
JORDAN: If you walk out of here, you better be ready for a solo career because you will no longer be a part of this band.
MARIS: Dev, please just go out there and play.
DEVYN’s eyes begin to water.
DEVYN: I can’t.
JORDAN: Fine. Then we will move forward without you.
JORDAN turns to MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI.
JORDAN: Right, ladies?
The exchange between DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI is extremely tense.
Ultimately, DEVYN’s pleading eyes fail to persuade them.
MARIS: The show must go on.
DEVYN is visibly crushed.
JORDAN: Finally. A Santini with her head on straight. You’re on, ladies.
JORDAN exits.
LUCIANA: I’m sorry, Dev.
ANDI: Me too.
LUCIANA and ANDI make their way to the stage.
MARIS goes to follow them, but stops before she goes out, looking back at DEVYN one last time.
The silent exchange between the two speaks louder than any verbal conversation.
MARIS is ultimately disappointed as she turns to head out on stage.
DEVYN sheds a tear.
The sound of the crowd cheering can be heard from backstage as MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI walk out.
DEVYN remains frozen in place, completely devastated.
DEVYN: So much for all of us sticking together.
SCENE TWENTY SIX – FLASHBACK – INT. SANTINI HOUSE – GARAGE
DEVYN is sitting in the garage on her phone looking at all of the commentary surrounding her absence from the live performance.
MARIS enters the garage with her guitar case.
DEVYN glances up at her with a nasty glare.
MARIS: We need to talk about what happened tonight.
MARIS sets the case down as DEVYN stands.
DEVYN: Oh, now you’re suddenly so vocal? Cause I could’ve sworn earlier that you lost all of your abilities to speak.
MARIS: What did you want me to say? Since you decided you basically wanted a solo career right before we were supposed to go out on stage.
DEVYN: That’s the last thing I wanted!
MARIS: Could’ve fooled me because that stunt that you pulled says otherwise. Why didn’t you tell us that you posted it?
DEVYN: Because if I did, you would’ve all told me that it was a bad idea.
MARIS: And we would’ve been right because look how it turned out.
DEVYN rolls her eyes.
MARIS: Look, I will talk to Jordan tomorrow and try to fix this, okay?
DEVYN: No, it’s not okay. Jordan is a prick and I refuse to continue working with him.
MARIS: So that’s just it, then?
MARIS takes a momentary pause before she continues.
MARIS: You’re just going to give up on everything we’ve worked so hard for?
DEVYN: I’m not giving up. I’m moving on. And I’d prefer to do that with you and the girls by my side, but clearly that’s not going to happen.
MARIS: I can’t speak for Andi and Luc, but not all of us are okay with throwing our careers down the toilet.
DEVYN: So you don’t think I can make it on my own?
MARIS: That’s not what I meant.
DEVYN: Whatever. There’s nothing that you can say or do to make me rejoin the band under Jordan’s leadership, so I wouldn’t waste your breath.
DEVYN begins to head towards the door to the house.
MARIS: No matter what happens, we’ll always be a team.
DEVYN stops short and turns back to face her.
DEVYN: What?
MARIS: That’s what we said that night on the bus during our very first tour.
DEVYN: Yeah. And look where it got us.
DEVYN storms into the house, leaving MARIS there.
SCENE TWENTY SEVEN – LOS ANGELES – INT. SOUNDSTAGE/DRESSING ROOM
The COASTAL RECORDS CREW are setting up for Maris’ video shoot.
MARIS and BRIANNA are sitting in the dressing room.
BRIANNA: Thanks for taking time out of your schedule to talk to me. I know you’re very busy.
MARIS: No, it’s fine. I should be the one thanking you for doing this. Tying up some loose ends that will hopefully put an end to some of the nasty rumors that have been circulating around the band break up.
BRIANNA: I can imagine that it hasn’t been easy.
MARIS: It hasn’t. But walking this journey alone has certainly taught me a lot about myself and what I can really do.
SCENE TWENTY EIGHT – FLASHBACK – LOS ANGELES – COASTAL RECORDS – JORDAN’S OFFICE
JORDAN is sitting at his desk when he hears a knock on the door.
JORDAN: Come in.
MARIS opens the door and enters.
JORDAN: Maris, have a seat.
MARIS sits in one of the chairs facing his desk.
JORDAN: How are you?
MARIS: That’s kind of an open-ended question given our current circumstances, don’t you think?
JORDAN: Yeah. I know that things have been a little tense around here regarding your sister’s decision—
MARIS: She had a choice. She made it. And so did we. But I think we can all agree that despite our best efforts, it’s just not working.
JORDAN: Maybe we should bring in another drummer to take Devyn’s place.
MARIS: Absolutely not. Andi’s been working really hard.
JORDAN: And I’ll admit that she’s doing well, but—
MARIS: Our songs have always been written in four-part harmony and it just doesn’t sound the same.
JORDAN: I agree. And unfortunately when your sister left, she took a good number of fans with her. Sales have been plummeting significantly since her departure and there’s not much else we can do. I’m sorry, but I don’t know how much longer Wildwave is going to last here at Coastal.
MARIS frowns.
JORDAN: However, I am currently in the market for my next pop superstar and I think that you would be perfect for it.
MARIS: Really?
JORDAN: Oh absolutely. Your drive and your voice are exactly what I’m looking for.
MARIS: Jordan, there’s already enough speculation out there regarding the band’s discrepancies. Do you really want to add more fuel to the fire? And how do you think Andi and Luciana are gonna feel? Not to mention my sister.
JORDAN: If they support you, they’ll understand. This is not personal. It’s just business.
SCENE TWENTY NINE – FLASHBACK – COASTAL RECORDS – RECORDING STUDIO
MARIS, ANDI, and LUCIANA are standing in a circle.
LUCIANA: That’s what he said?
MARIS: Yes. I’m so sorry guys.
ANDI: Don’t be. This was inevitable and we can’t say we didn’t see it coming.
MARIS: I am eternally grateful for everything you guys did to keep this band going. It did not go unnoticed.
LUCIANA: It’s what we do. We’re a team.
ANDI: On and off the stage.
MARIS smiles warmly.
LUCIANA: So what are you going to do about Jordan’s offer?
MARIS: I don’t even know.
ANDI: Have you talked to Dev about it?
MARIS: Not yet. It’s no secret that things haven’t been great between the two of us lately. And the second she hears about this—
LUCIANA: All hell will break loose.
MARIS: Exactly. But don’t worry about it. I can handle it. Besides, it’s nothing compared to how the fans will react.
ANDI: It’ll be fine. The storm will pass.
MARIS: Hope so. And you’re sure you guys will be okay?
LUCIANA: We’ll be fine.
ANDI: Yeah. My dad’s been dying to get me back to the restaurant. None of his recent hires have been up to par.
MARIS: Got it.
LUCIANA: And I can return to swimming, maybe apply to be a lifeguard or something.
MARIS: So I guess everything’s set then?
ANDI’s voice breaks.
ANDI: Yeah.
A tear runs down MARIS’ cheek.
MARIS: But just know that no matter where we go or what we do, I’ll always be cheering you guys on. I love you guys.
MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI all hug. When they pull apart, they all wipe their tears.
MARIS: Now I just need to talk to Dev.
SCENE THIRTY – FLASHBACK – INT. SANTINI HOUSE – GARAGE/DEVYN’S BEDROOM
MARIS enters the garage looking for Devyn.
MARIS: Dev?
When MARIS doesn’t see her, she continues to the house.
MARIS enters Devyn’s bedroom.
MARIS: Dev?
MARIS slows to a stop when she notices a good number of Devyn’s things missing. She makes her way over to the closet and sees that her clothes are missing. She turns and sees Devyn’s Wildwave scrapbook on the bed. She goes to grab it and finally comes to the conclusion that she could not have predicted: Devyn left L.A.
SCENE THIRTY ONE – CHICAGO – INT. LIV AND JAXON’S HOTEL ROOM – MORNING
LIV is lying on the bed wearing one of Jaxon’s t-shirts. She smiles when sees the video of Aria and Elle doing karaoke at the bar.
LIV: Oh my God.
Liv’s phone rings with a FaceTime call from Aria.
LIV is quick to answer.
LIV: Aria Marie Cole.
ARIA: Hello to you too. I was just calling to see how things were going over there in the Windy City. I wasn’t expected to get scolded for doing absolutely nothing.
LIV: Oh, you did something. And I just had the pleasure of witnessing it on my social media.
ARIA: Oh, that.
LIV: Yeah. That. You know, usually when one of us is going on a date, we think it’s worth mentioning.
ARIA: I didn’t mention it because it wasn’t a date; not an official one anyway.
LIV: So I take you two are moving in a positive direction?
ARIA: I’d say so. The connection that we have is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.
LIV: I’m going to try not to take that personally.
ARIA: So how are things going there?
LIV: Really good, actually. I’m learning a lot. In fact, I might just be inspired to start some kind of fashion column for L&O.
ARIA: That sounds interesting. Well, I gotta get packing. I’m flying out to Cali to meet Bri and Wildwave.
LIV: I’m totally not jealous at all.
ARIA lightly chuckles.
LIV: Well, have fun and say hi to Bri for me.
ARIA: Will do. Love you.
LIV: Love you too.
ARIA waves before she hangs up.
A few moments pass before JAXON exits the bathroom, still wrapped in his towel from his shower.
LIV glances over at him and smirks.
JAXON: Are you checking me out?
LIV: You’re kind of making it hard not to.
JAXON walks over to her and kisses her, admiring her in his shirt.
JAXON: Likewise.
JAXON walks over to his nightstand to grab his deodorant.
LIV: So about last night…
JAXON: Definitely worth the wait.
LIV: I agree.
JAXON walks back into the bathroom shortly before LOLA knocks on the connecting door.
LIV hops off of the bed to answer it.
LIV: Good morning, Lo.
LOLA glances down at the shirt and smiles amusingly.
LOLA: Sure seems like it.
LIV playfully pushes her before moving to the side so LOLA can walk in.
LOLA: You know, as your boss, I feel obligated to scold you for participating in such intimate activities while on a work trip.
LIV playfully scoffs and crosses her arms.
JAXON exits the bathroom in his clothes for the day.
LIV: Oh please. So you’re telling me that nothing happened on the other side of this wall with you and Sam because I could’ve sworn that I heard—
LOLA: Nothing. You heard nothing.
JAXON: Sure sounded like something.
LOLA: Moving on. I came over here to ask if I could borrow your Chanel boots.
LIV: Go for it.
LOLA grabs the boots from in front of Liv’s bed.
LOLA: Thank you.
LIV: You’re welcome.
LOLA walks back over to her and Sam’s room.
LIV: Well, I guess I should get in the shower.
LIV grabs her shower stuff.
JAXON: Want some company?
LIV: Slow down there, tiger. It hasn’t even been a full 24 hours.
JAXON chuckles.
LIV kisses JAXON as she walks past him.
SCENE THIRTY TWO – LOS ANGELES – INT. BOBBY’S BEACHSIDE RESTAURANT
BRIANNA, DEVYN, and LUCIANA are sitting in a booth.
ANDI walks up to them with a tray of milkshakes and sets them on the table before she joins them.
ANDI: Okay guys, I’ve got about 15 minutes before my break is up, so what’s this about?
DEVYN: I know that we didn’t exactly end things on the best terms, so I wanted to apologize for putting you both in a tough spot.
LUCIANA: I appreciate that. And I never really blamed you for wanting to be more in the spotlight. We should’ve known that Jordan had a hidden agenda all along to make Mar the breakout star.
ANDI: Exactly and he certainly succeeded in that.
BRIANNA: But you guys have a chance to do something really cool here.
LUCIANA: And that is?
DEVYN: Playing the show that we never got to play.
ANDI: How would that even work? Believe me, I would love to return to making music, but we have different lives now and I can’t abandon my family again.
LUCIANA: And I have a team that I can’t leave behind.
DEVYN: I understand, but what if it’s just for one night only?
ANDI and LUCIANA both appear to be intrigued.
DEVYN: I just want us to have proper closure for the band and hopefully, my sister will agree.
LUCIANA: You really think that you can get her on board with this?
DEVYN: It’s not really her that I’m worried about. It’s Jordan. The second he finds out about this, he’ll just try to shut it down.
ANDI: Which is why it’s probably best that we keep this on the down low until it’s too late to stop it.
BRIANNA: So where would you guys even play if you have to keep it a secret? It’s not gonna mean much if you don’t really have a crowd to play for.
LUCIANA pulls up Maris’ Instagram on her phone and smiles.
LUCIANA: I think I have an idea.
SCENE THIRTY THREE – NEW YORK CITY – INT. HOTEL RESTAURANT
STELLA enters with an uncertain level of intensity written all over her face. She makes her way to a table where SOFIA is sitting.
STELLA: You wanted to see me?
SOFIA offers her a warm smile.
SOFIA: Stella. Yes I did. Have a seat.
STELLA sits.
SOFIA: How are you?
STELLA: I’d be a lot better if stone cold strangers didn’t try to use me for their own benefit by trudging up the past.
SOFIA: Ouch. I knew I’d like you.
STELLA rolls her eyes and scoffs.
SOFIA: Look, I know that I caught you off guard last night, so I thought I would try again in a less intruding setting.
STELLA: It doesn’t matter where we talk. My answer is still the same.
SOFIA: Stella—
STELLA: No. Just because you are a friend of my aunt’s does not mean that I owe you any favors. I know that I did some horrible things that I can never take back and I own it. But I will never do it again.
SOFIA: And I get that. But I just want you to hear me out. I didn’t even get a chance to properly explain myself.
STELLA: Oh, by all means, go right ahead.
SOFIA: Thank you. Now I’m not sure how much you know about what happened between me and your friends—
STELLA: I know enough. I know that you’ll do whatever it takes to make it no matter who it hurts.
SOFIA: Exactly and that’s why you and I are similar.
STELLA: That was the old me. I don’t believe that anymore.
SOFIA: Whatever you have to tell yourself.
SOFIA sips her drink.
STELLA: I think we’re done here.
STELLA stands and prepares to exit.
SOFIA: I think you seem to be forgetting one thing, Stella. At the end of the day, I’m the reason that you are here.
STELLA: In what world is that even remotely true?
SOFIA: The one where the pressure of a show that I created pushed Lola to a breaking point that resulted in her leaving the city to find you. And now look where we are.
STELLA: We are in a different place now. I’m still working to earn back my friends’ trust and that doesn’t include working for you.
SOFIA: Actually it does…
SOFIA reaches into her bag and pulls out a folder to hand to STELLA.
SOFIA: …unless you want these surfacing around.
STELLA takes the folder and slowly sits back in her chair.
STELLA: What is this?
SOFIA: Insurance.
STELLA opens the folder to find all of her unpublished blog posts about the L&Os printed out.
SOFIA smirks.
STELLA: How did you get these?
SOFIA: I have my ways.
STELLA is speechless.
SOFIA: Your friends nearly destroyed my career, so I’m simply returning the favor. The way I see it, you have a few choices here. You either work for me and have enough money to make it on your own in this city or you don’t and I make sure these posts of yours finally see the light of day.
STELLA hesitates to respond.
SOFIA: Let’s face the facts. You’ll never truly be one of them again, so why waste your time playing the part?
STELLA sighs in defeat.
SCENE THIRTY FOUR – LOS ANGELES – EXT. MARIS’ HOUSE
DEVYN walks up to the front door and knocks on it.
MARIS opens it.
There’s an awkward tension between the two.
DEVYN: Hey.
MARIS: Hey. Come on in.
DEVYN: Thanks.
DEVYN enters the house.
MARIS closes the door behind her.
SCENE THIRTY FIVE – LOS ANGELES – EXT. MARIS’ HOUSE – POOL
DEVYN and MARIS are sitting by the pool.
MARIS: I was surprised to get your call.
DEVYN: I was surprised that you answered.
MARIS: I wasn’t sure if you had agreed to do Bri’s interview or not. I figured you wanted to leave the past in the past.
DEVYN: Well, it’s definitely a story worth telling.
MARIS: I’ll say.
DEVYN looks up at the house.
DEVYN: You have a nice place.
MARIS: Thanks. I had always hoped that we would buy our first place together.
DEVYN: I know, but I really felt like I didn’t have much of a choice. New York felt like the perfect escape.
MARIS: It would’ve been nice if you at least told me that you were leaving.
DEVYN: I was afraid that if I did, I wouldn’t go through with it. I was so hurt by how everything played out, but I was even more hurt to leave it all behind.
MARIS: I know how you feel.
DEVYN: How so? Everything seemed to work out in your favor. You got everything you ever wanted.
MARIS: I never wanted a solo career. I wanted to make music with you. I still do.
DEVYN: Me too.
MARIS’ eyebrows perk up.
MARIS: You do? Well that’s a relief to hear. I’m actively trying to get out of my contract with Coastal just so that I can be free from Jordan’s control. I regret not walking out with you when I had the chance.
DEVYN: Well you just might be getting a second chance after all.
MARIS: What do you mean?
DEVYN: I met up with Luc and Andi today.
MARIS: You did?
DEVYN: Yep and we have an idea that’s so crazy, it just might work.
MARIS: I’m listening.
SCENE THIRTY SIX – LOS ANGELES – INT. MARIS’ HOUSE – MUSIC ROOM
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI are all in the room talking.
MARIS: So let me get this straight. You guys want me to throw an impromptu concert which is just a ruse for our reunion?
ANDI: Yep.
MARIS: That’s insane.
LUCIANA: We know. But we put a lot of thought into this. There’s no way that Jordan would willingly let you do this, so the only way that we could pull it off is by going behind his back.
MARIS slowly shakes her head.
DEVYN can sense her hesitation.
DEVYN: I totally get your hesitation, so if you’re not comfortable, we won’t do it.
MARIS: Don’t take the silence as a “no”. I’m just processing. It’s a risk.
MARIS smirks.
MARIS: But we never wanted to play it safe, right?
DEVYN smiles.
LUCIANA: So, you’re in?
MARIS: I’m in.
MARIS, DEVYN, LUCIANA, and ANDI all cheer before taking their positions for practice.
DEVYN grabs the electric guitar.
LUCIANA grabs the bass.
ANDI sits at the drums.
MARIS stands at the mic stand.
MARIS: I will admit that I’m a bit out of practice. I haven’t played our type of music in a while.
ANDI: Get it together, pop princess. You got this.
DEVYN: We’ll take it easy on you. All you have to do is sing and thankfully it’s a song you’re familiar with.
DEVYN hands her some sheet music.
MARIS examines it.
MARIS: You made a rock version of one of my songs?
DEVYN: Yep. But it’s just for a warm up. If we perform it, Jordan would use it as grounds to sue us.
MARIS: Good point.
MARIS sets the sheet music on the music stand next to her.
DEVYN: Alright, you guys ready?
MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI all respond with various forms of “Yes”.
DEVYN: Sweet. Let’s do this.
MARIS, DEVYN, LUCIANA, and ANDI all do a run through of the rock version of one of Maris’ songs. It’s clear that the spark between the four has been reignited.
SCENE THIRTY SEVEN – LOS ANGELES – EXT. MARIS’ HOUSE – POOL – SUNSET
MARIS, DEVYN, LUCIANA, and ANDI are all sitting by the pool eating dinner and laughing.
Maris’ phone rings, prompting her to check it.
MARIS steps inside the house when she sees that it is JORDAN calling.
MARIS: Hey Jordan, I’m glad you called. I’m assuming everything is all good for tomorrow night’s performance?
JORDAN: Yes and it couldn’t have come at a more perfect time because it is the perfect backdrop for our big announcement.
MARIS: What big announcement?
JORDAN: It’s been a long time in the making, but I finally ironed out all the details. You are finally going on your first world tour.
MARIS: Wait, what?
JORDAN: I know this is some pretty big news, but you worked hard for it. We are going to be live streaming tomorrow night’s performance and at the end of it, we’ll surprise your fans with the news.
MARIS: Wow. This is a lot.
JORDAN: It is, which is why I’m giving you the night to let it all sink in. Congratulations, Maris.
MARIS: Thank you, Jordan.
MARIS looks back at DEVYN, MARIS, and ANDI by the pool, clearly conflicted by the news.
SCENE THIRTY EIGHT – LOS ANGELES – EXT. LAX – CURBSIDE PICKUP
ARIA exits the airport and walks down the sidewalk.
BRIANNA is leaning against the back of her rental car.
ARIA smiles when she sees her.
BRIANNA: Welcome to L.A., Cole. Glad you could make it.
ARIA: Me too. Thanks for picking me up.
BRIANNA: Of course.
BRIANNA opens up the trunk.
ARIA puts her suitcases in.
BRIANNA closes it.
ARIA and BRIANNA get into the car.
SCENE THIRTY NINE – LOS ANGELES – INT. CAR
BRIANNA is driving with ARIA in the passenger seat.
ARIA: So they all agreed to do it?
BRIANNA: Yep.
ARIA: Even Maris? I’m shocked.
BRIANNA: So was I.
ARIA: I mean she’d be giving up a lot to do this.
BRIANNA: I know, but I think we all know where her heart is.
SCENE FORTY – LOS ANGELES – INT. CONCERT VENUE – DRESSING ROOM
Maris’ fans can be heard faintly in the background of the scene.
MARIS is doing some touch-ups of her makeup in her vanity mirror.
DEVYN, LUCIANA, and ANDI are chilling on the couches.
ARIA and BRIANNA enter.
BRIANNA: You guys, this place is packed.
ARIA: It is definitely going to be an unforgettable night.
DEVYN: You can say that again.
JORDAN stands in the doorway, a bit surprised to see the room so packed.
JORDAN: Oh. Maris, when you had asked me for five VIP passes, I wasn’t expecting some of them to go to your former bandmates.
DEVYN: We have names, Jordan.
JORDAN: Nice to see you haven’t changed, Devyn.
DEVYN rolls her eyes.
JORDAN: I assume you all are here to celebrate Maris’ big news.
DEVYN, LUCIANA, and ANDI are all baffled.
ANDI: What big news?
MARIS avoids eye contact with them.
JORDAN: I’m sorry. I assumed she told you. Maris is going on a world tour. We’re announcing it tonight.
DEVYN: Wait, what?
ARIA and BRIANNA glance at each other.
JORDAN attempts to hide his smirk.
JORDAN: Well it certainly was not my intention to cause any drama, but I just wanted to send you some well wishes before you go out there.
MARIS grits her teeth and attempts to force a smile.
MARIS: Thank you, Jordan.
JORDAN exits.
ARIA watches him leave with disgust.
ARIA: I don’t like him.
LUCIANA: Join the club.
The unspoken tension between DEVYN and MARIS takes over the room.
DEVYN: You’re going on a world tour?
MARIS hesitates before she answers.
MARIS: Yes.
DEVYN: How long have you known about this?
MARIS: I found out last night.
DEVYN: When we were at your house? Well that explains why you were acting so weird after you took that phone call.
ANDI: So what does this mean for our performance?
DEVYN: Well we can’t very well do it if Maris is announcing the tour right after it.
ANDI and LUCIANA are both disappointed.
DEVYN sighs.
DEVYN: Wow. It really does feel like old times.
LUCIANA places her hand on DEVYN’s shoulder.
LUCIANA: Dev—
DEVYN gently removes her hand.
DEVYN: No, Luc. It’s fine. This won’t be like last time. We’re not kids anymore.
DEVYN looks back at MARIS.
DEVYN: I’m so proud of you. You’ve really made it.
MARIS: Dev, I—
DEVYN: It’s cool. You are going to go out there and give your fans a great performance and we’ll be cheering you on.
LUCIANA and ANDI both nod in support.
MARIS: I love you guys.
MARIS, DEVYN, LUCIANA, and ANDI all hug.
When they all pull away, ANDI places her hand on MARIS’ shoulder.
ANDI: Good luck out there, Mar.
DEVYN, LUCIANA, and ANDI all make their way towards the door.
BRIANNA follows them out.
ARIA remains in the room with MARIS.
ARIA: I’m happy for you.
MARIS: I wish I was. I mean I got everything I ever wanted, so why does it feel so—
ARIA slowly approaches her.
ARIA: Bad?
MARIS: Yeah.
ARIA: Maybe because your dream changed. I mean look who you’re talking to.
MARIS: You’re right. I don’t really think my dream changed though. I think it was what I always wanted. I just didn’t want to do it alone.
ARIA: Well the way I see it, you have two choices here. You could go out there, do a great show and announce the tour or you can show everyone where your heart is.
MARIS grins.
SCENE FORTY ONE – LOS ANGELES – INT. CONCERT VENUE – BACKSTAGE
MARIS walks up the steps to the stage in slow motion, adrenaline building as she hears the fans chanting her name.
SCENE FORTY TWO – LOS ANGELES – INT. CONCERT VENUE – STAGE/BACKSTAGE
As MARIS walks out on stage, the fans cheer.
DEVYN, LUCIANA, ANDI, BRIANNA, and ARIA are all sitting on the front row.
MARIS stands at the microphone and makes eye contact with them.
DEVYN, LUCIANA, ANDI, BRIANNA, and ARIA all give her supportive smiles.
DEVYN does the “rock on” symbol with her hand, causing MARIS to smile.
MARIS: Hey everybody! Thank you for coming out!
The crowd cheers.
MARIS: Before I perform, I just wanted to say a few things. I am eternally grateful for all of your support. It’s been such a wild ride. But I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am today if not for some amazing people who supported me even when it wasn’t easy.
LUCIANA and ANDI smile at each other and then back at MARIS.
MARIS: Those people are the reason why I am not afraid to take risks. They are the ones who truly deserve their flowers.
JORDAN stands side-stage, slightly thrown by what is unfolding in front of him.
MARIS: And they’re the real reason why we’re here tonight.
DEVYN smiles.
MARIS makes direct eye contact with them.
MARIS: And hopefully they will join me on stage.
The crowd reacts with anticipation.
DEVYN, LUCIANA, and ANDI all exchange looks with each other.
JORDAN crosses his arms in frustration.
BRIANNA and ARIA encourage DEVYN, LUCIANA, and ANDI to go up.
DEVYN, LUCIANA, and ANDI make their way up to the stage.
The crowd cheers.
DEVYN: Mar, what are you doing?
MARIS: I’m showing people where my heart is.
ARIA smiles.
MARIS holds DEVYN’s hands.
MARIS: Now, I believe it’s time for our long overdue performance with you as the lead.
DEVYN smiles.
DEVYN: Let’s do this.
MARIS smiles and goes to sit at the drums.
LUCIANA grabs her bass.
ANDI stands at the keyboard.
DEVYN grabs her guitar and stands at the mic.
MARIS looks over at JORDAN with a smile on her face. When she sees his disapproving look, she gives him the “rock on” symbol very aggressively with a mischievous glint in her eye before grabbing the drumsticks.
DEVYN looks back at her amused before nodding to give her the cue.
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI start to perform the song.
JORDAN: That’s it. I’m pulling the plug on this.
JORDAN turns around and sees ARIA and BRIANNA standing behind him with their arms crossed.
ARIA AND BRIANNA: Yeah, no you’re not.
ARIA and BRIANNA link arms with him and keep him there.
SCENE FORTY THREE – CHICAGO – INT. SKYLAR’S HOTEL ROOM
LOLA, LIV, SKYLAR, SAM, and JAXON are watching the livestream of the performance on their TV in their hotel room.
SKYLAR is jamming out on her bed using her hairbrush as a microphone.
LIV and LOLA are dancing together.
SAM and JAXON are standing back to back playing air guitars.
SCENE FORTY FOUR – LOS ANGELES – INT. CONCERT VENUE – STAGE/BACKSTAGE
When WILDWAVE’s performance concludes, the crowd erupts in cheer.
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI are elated as they make their way to the edge of the stage holding hands.
ARIA and BRIANNA cheer from side-stage as JORDAN scowls.
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI bow.
SCENE FORTY FIVE – LOS ANGELES – INT. CONCERT VENUE – BACKSTAGE
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI hug.
ANDI: That was great!
DEVYN: I know!
DEVYN turns to face MARIS.
DEVYN: And you are becoming quite the pro on the drums.
ANDI: I taught her everything she knows.
MARIS playfully pushes her.
LUCIANA: I can’t believe we just did that.
JORDAN approaches them with anger written all over his face.
JORDAN: Neither can I.
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI turn to face him.
JORDAN: It’s funny cause when I approved the final setlist, I don’t recall some impromptu Wildwave performance being on it.
MARIS: That’s because it wasn’t and everybody loved it.
JORDAN: Not everybody. Now how are we supposed to announce the tour after that?
MARIS: We’re not.
DEVYN, LUCIANA, and ANDI are all shocked.
JORDAN: Excuse me?
MARIS: You heard me. I’m not doing the tour.
JORDAN: You’re joking, right?
MARIS: No. In case you didn’t notice, my heart belongs with the band. It always has.
JORDAN: I cannot believe you’re throwing everything away for some stupid sisterhood.
MARIS: It’s not stupid. Not that you would know. I think it’s best that you find another girl to be your puppet because I’m done.
JORDAN: God, you and your sister are more alike than I thought.
MARIS: I’ll take that as a compliment.
JORDAN: Tell your agent that she’ll be hearing from my lawyers.
MARIS: No problem. She’s already anticipating it.
JORDAN scoffs and walks away, cursing under his breath.
ANDI: There is no way you just did that.
MARIS: I did and it felt good. Frankly, that was long overdue. I want to be backed by a team that’s actually supportive of my dream.
DEVYN: And that dream is?
MARIS: To share the stage with some of my favorite people in the world.
DEVYN, MARIS, LUCIANA, and ANDI hug once more.
LUCIANA: Look, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s going to be kind of hard to be a band again when some of us don’t even live in this state.
DEVYN softly chuckles.
DEVYN: I think that some of us are willing to give L.A. another chance. But some of us have other jobs as well.
ANDI: I can rearrange my work schedule around rehearsals and recording sessions.
LUCIANA: And I can take the morning shifts at the pool.
MARIS: I think I’m going to like this new era.
DEVYN: Me too.
SCENE FORTY SIX – NEW YORK CITY – INT. STELLA’S AUNT’S APARTMENT – LIVING ROOM
“The Devil Within” by Digital Daggers is playing faintly in the background.
STELLA and SOFIA are sitting on the couch, both with a glass of wine in their hands.
SOFIA: I was starting to think I wouldn’t hear from you again.
STELLA: Whatever. I just need to know one thing. What is it going to take for you to give all of this up?
SOFIA: When L&O is no longer a part of Rose.
STELLA: Fine. If that’s what you want, I will do whatever it takes to make that happen.
SOFIA: Music to my ears.
SOFIA smirks and sips her glass.
The song’s volume increases for the last 10 seconds of the song as STELLA sips her drink with all of her pent up stress motivating her to finish her drink faster.
END OF EPISODE
